the
Greater Ruidoso Area
Whether one travels across New Mexico on
I-25 from El Paso in the south or Albuquerque
in the north, one will see to the east, the
"Natural
Wonder"
known as White Sands National Monument.
Little does one realize that beyond that vast
desert lies an area of scenic beauty filled
with pine, spruce, aspens and mountains which
appear to touch the clear blue sky itself, and
vistas that challenge your eyesight. If that was
not enough, it is a land filled with history dating
back to the days of the Wild West and Billy the
Kid, to the birth of the Atomic Age and
now America’s
"Journey into Space".
It is an area for all seasons, offering in the
Fall numerous festivals and the
Change of

Fall
Color
Spectacle,
in the Winter skiing, tubing, snowmobiling and
ice skating, and in the Spring and Summer golf,
fishing, hunting, hiking, mountain bike riding,
horse back riding, cave exploring and cool evenings.
Gaming is available all year long at its three
casinos and in the summer, horse Racing,
including the richest quarter horse race in the
world,
The All American Futurity, is available at Ruidoso
Downs. It is a center of culture with numerous
local artist, and Spencer Theater where Broadway
shows can be seen all year long. It has numerous
museums such as the Hubbard
Museum of the American West
which tells the story of
America's
Westward Expansion
and The New Mexico Museum of Space History
which tells the story of America’s
future,
its exploration of Space.
This
area, which we call the Greater Ruidoso Area
includes
Ruidoso, Ruidoso Downs, Alto, and Mescalero
a
vacation paradise known to few but one which should
not be missed.
